I got a flu shot in October, but my children required a pediatrician referral. So they didn't get it. My dd and dh came down with the flu pretty hard. Everyone I knew that cought it had a cough and headache first. Because there was no upset stomachs, we didn't realize it was the flu at first.

Well, we didn't get the shots and now my DD is sick. 102 temp (under arm--so that makes 102.9 doesn't it), cough, runny nose, etc. Tomorrow is her birthday too--poor girl! I hope the rest of us don't get it, but we'll see.

Influenza is NOT vomiting and or diarrea. That is medically called gastritis and is usually caused by a virus or by something we ate. The true "flu" is a respiratory illness and is characterised by cough and fever. Influenza is dangerous particularly to the elderly, very young and those with respiratory, heart and immune system problems. Unfortunantly the media in Wisc has whipped up a frenzy about the vaccine thus causing a huge shortage here. Here in Wisc we have not seen the outbreak. The vaccine doesn't take effect for 2 weeks after getting it. Right now the CDC is expecting the flu season to peak early as in the middle of Dec. which is right now. So if you get the vaccine now, you are vulnerable during the peak. I tell you this vaccine business is making my work VERY difficult! If you are a healthy adult, please save the vaccine for those who REALLY need it. Thanks and sorry about the little vent. Hard week at work dealing with irrate, healthy people that can't get the vaccine. Sue

OK, I got lucky. I found out today that my ins will pay 100% for flu shots. Called the doctor to make an apt. and was told to get here asap, they did not know if any would be left by lunch time. I called the schools and grabbed the kiddos and left. DS-13 has asthma, and I felt he really needed it, so DD-10 and I both got it as well. Nothing was said about either of the kids going back for a booster.
