Kris...her 504 states that her agenda be used to record homework.."student present to teacher for initialing"...and of course she never does, so that's the loophole THEY use as to why this accommodation isn't being followed. I looked back in her agenda though and never even saw where this assignment was written down when first assigned.
I have also often talked to them about assigning her a peer to help her remember necessary papers, etc...esp. at that last locker run before loading the bus...not being done either.
That's why at first I was upset with the school...but all being said, this was only a five paragraph assignment. It was assigned from what I gather on a Thursday, and not due until the following Monday. So, she had plenty of days she could have worked on it....broken down into days that's just over a parapragh a day, which isn't too much to ask really. I mean, the child has no problem writing notes to her friends for goodness sake!
Bottom line I decided on is that she needs to be a little more responsible herself. I mean, she is just under a month away from her 14th birthday. If she is going to succeed in high school, possibly college, and into adult-hood, then she has got to learn to manage on her own...we cannot hold her hand throught the remainder of her life.
