I´am interested to know how your campus tour goes, please keep us posted, and GOOD LUCK Well, we did the tour, spent two hours with the Commandant. I was convinced in 3 minutes, I love it. Michael went into the interview with an attitude of "this is Plan B if my High School doesn't give me JROTC". He came away with "I am definitely transferring, I think!" I went to the local high school and got his transcripts. Today is freshman orientation day, but they still don't have class schedules for upper classmen ready! So, I need to talk to DH and make a decision. I am 150% for it, Michael is confused, because he loves his friends, but he loves the new school. I say, if they are real friends they will stay in touch, but they won't help you get through college and life! Not much comparison in my eyes. The campus is located about 50 miles North of Gettysburg, in a beautiful valley, in a VERY quaint little town... 6 churches and NO car dealership! When we left the school, we drove down the main drag (about 3 blocks long) and saw the town monument, and had to wait for the horse and buggy to go past. Michael really hit it off great with the Commandant, who is the rifle team coach. They might as well have been speaking gibberish... it meant nothing to me, but they understood each other. I am sort of burnt out, but I am excited too. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the encouragement.

Hang on for the ride! DH asked Michael all about the interview and tour. When all was said and done, DH asked Michael if was willing to pay the $65 application fee. Without even taking a second to think, he said ABSOLUTELY! So, Thursday night, we filled out the online app. and Michael asked to be the one to hit the SEND button! Now, we just wait for him to be accepted. He then called his old colonel and asked for a letter of recommendation. After that he sent e-mail to his drill sgt. and his freshman Algebra teacher requesting letters also. I talked to the school, and all they need are those reference checks, and a decision will be made. Today I went to Walmart and bought the required sheets and towels and hangers, and t shirts and boxers and sox and pj's and ... WOW... I didn't realize how much money it takes to cloth and house one child for one year. We always buy when we need something, or find a bargain. But 6 towels, 12 handkerchiefs, 14 t shirts, 14 sox, a pillow, 6 sheets, pillowcases all at once ADDS up too fast. So, I am a nervous wreck. After he sent the application, which I was so excited about, I sat in my room and cried for an hour. I know he is my oldest, but my baby is only turning 15 this week. He is a very tall baby in my heart. I am so thrilled for him, and terrified at the same time. Thanks again for all the support making the decision.

I hope all works out and he excels far greater than you imagined there! That way you will never doubt your decision and it'll make missing him a tad easier. Way to go for setting a goal and making it happen!

Let me start by saying, no news is good news... right? As of today, the second letter of recommendation was in. The first one I got e-mailed to me... so I will give you the "proud mom" paraphrased version... I have been Mike’s Assistant Scout Master since 2001. In that time, he has risen to the rank of ‘Life Scout.’ and has held 4 leadership positions. Over the past 4 years, Mike has shown greater interest and has excelled more with the outdoor skills of Scouting. If required to identify any weaknesses, it would be with the administrative/paper work aspects in the follow through of merit badge work. This can be pretty common with a number of scouts however.
in High School Mike became a member of the JROTC program while staying active in the Boy Scout Troop. I have been very impressed with his rate of growth and maturity as a scout. It has far exceeded previous years and I can’t help but feel this is attributed to his JROTC training of which he is obviously dedicated. I have had the opportunity to watch Mike drill with his Company in the JROTC program and I’ve felt pride seeing him stand tall in uniform.
I would highly recommend Mike for admission. His growth from the JROTC program is obvious and I feel he would continue to successfully respond and be dedicated to education presented in the disciplines of military principles. So, based on that one Proud parent tears! So, maybe Monday we will hear... until then, he is suffering the days at the local high school. today was day 4 and schedule #3. Grrrrr. I promise you will know when I know, unless I have to jump in the car and drive him to school that minute!
