Thanks for the information on the magnet therapy! As for the dysgraphia there was a subject in the "related disorders category" a while ago... I will try to find it in a minute... RIght now though to answer your question about the signature lines...
Go to profile (at the top under the date), then go to the black "modify profile"... About mid page you will see "signature", put what you want in there, although it is REALLY helpfull to put age of child and diagnosis... Possibly even medication if you so desire... It just helps with reply's, and our memories... ;D
After putting in what you want, go all the way to the bottom and click "modify profile" button, this MUST be done to activate the changes... DO NOT HIT DELETE ACCOUNT BUTTONIf you need anymore help ask away!! Good luck today!!

Thanks for the profile info. Sorry I didn't list DS meds on there, but the way they change, I'd never be able to keep my profile current!
Thanks again for all of the advice. I've spent the past few hours checking out all the links. Am a little (huge understatement) overwhelmed by the Wrightslaw site. But, as my child's strongest advocate, I will force myself to jump in and learn what I can learn.
I have found further links that have been full of information I can't even begin to absorb. Did find that my ds meets all 14 of the criteria for ADHD set forth by the NIMH (Nat. Inst Ment Hlth). YIKES!
By the way, on the lighter side... We all know that ADD is really a diagnosis of a brain that is slow, and therefore needs excessive stimuli to keep it awake, focused, and attentive. ADHD children are effectively using hyperactivity to "wake up" their brains. (All of this is info I have gathered from various research. ) And this is why ADD/ADHD children often respond well to stimulants, meds that would make you and I hyperactive.
SO..... how many of you weary parents have ever considered trying a dose or two of your kids' meds just to keep up with them?
Just curious. I never have, but have often wondered, at the end of a long day of calls from the teacher, arguing with my child, and constantly redirecting and reminding him, if that would be the ONLY solution.
But no, I have to remember that even though I feel completely inept, useless and handicapped at time, the perscription is not in my name. Bummer.
I'll let you all know how IEP goes. Thanks for your support!

As for the meds... I think a lot of parents have tried the kids meds so that we know what the kid is experiencing. Like, you always heard growing up about what alcohol does, but until you experience it, you just didn't really know. And now, you want to give something "mind altering" to your precious child... of course you want to know before you put them through it.
I, on the other hand, am also ADHD, and DO have a script in my own name... but I tried Michael's med before I started my own!
PS JEN!!! I LOVE THE descriptions of your DARLING CHILDREN! Especially Zoe!
As for the "lazy"... Michael put it well when he said, "I am NOT lazy, I am efficient. I get the job done quickly and correctly the first time so I don't have to keep going back to redo the same boring sh**". Gotta love our bright children!

Hi All!
Had my IEP at school yesterday and was armed with information from the Council for Exceptional Children site (www.cec.sped.org). This site had info on dual expceptions, gifted and ADHD. It listed several different conditions, OCD, Memory Retrieval Impairment, Etc. I wa armed with tips, tools, to request from the school. I met with Guidance and teacher, and we were all in agreement that Jack has a disability, qualified by the state under the IDEA (Wrightslaw - thanks for the link girls), and is entitled to accomodations.
We are giving him 2 desks, so that he can get up and move back and forth from one to the other during class. He will use a stress ball to release energy and keep from pencil tapping, loud fidgeting that can be disruptive to rest of class. He will have a buddy who will actually write his homework assignments, put them in his pack and make sure he has all of his books in his pack. Jackson NEVER brings home assignments. He NEVER brings home books, and NEVER finishes work. Although, he can remember all of his assignments and do them strictly from memory and ace them all. Very frustrating for me though, not knowing what is due when. I'm not gifted, can't work that way.
They are also making other accomodations, such as allowing him extra time for test taking and assignments. He will NOT lose recess if he doesn't finish work.
All in all I was really happy, and hope to see some good results. I will continue to do my research and introduce new things over time. Time will tell.
Just thought I'd fill you all in.

;)GREAT JOB MOM I like the idea of 2 desks, but Mikey would have them both a mess ;D ;D I love that buddy system too, I wish I had thought of something like that for Mikey, but the rest of the kids in the class are as forgetful as Mikey, so I don't think that would work. Can I ask, how many kids are in Jack's class? Mikey has 24 so far, and we have some new developments going up :-*not that I don't like new developments, but our school is needing an addition built and so far is on hold because they saw an eagle flying around the area I'm just glad that Mikey has remembered to write his assignments in his agenda, oh how it would be nice to be able to read them ;D Good luck with the plan and stick to your guns to make sure they are sticking to it too

Kaiti
There are only 14 kids in Jack's class. And all but 2 were with him last year, same teacher too. Our gifted is a blended 2nd/3rd and then a separate class for 4th/5th. Anyhow, even with these obvious advantages, he still flounders. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for these new things to work. I'll keep you posted for sure.
