In Mikey's 504, we have them cut the written work too and give extra time. We have been practicing handwriting here and there, but not as much as we should YUP, We'll be doing that when they come home from the in-laws today :oIt's not going to be pretty, neither will the writing

Homework has started here too. Rose insists that there won't be spelling tests this year. There is a teacher meeting tonight. I'll see what she says.

Doesn't it crack you up at some of the things the kids tell you. Like you can't call the teacher and find out the truth

We did our first homework assignment on thursday... what a nightmare . I guess I got to used to the summer relaxation time. It took 90 minutes to write one paragraph about himself. It had to include 10 numbers in it (3d grade). I always fool myself into thinking that he can get through the assignment quickly...NOT! Even with me practically telling him what to write, it took forever! I felt like I was cheating for him . How frustrating. I really had a hard time keeping my focus and sense of humor. I finally convinced him to make it more interesting, and he went on to write about his "annoying" brothers. At least it made him laugh, although that was right after he almost started crying out of frustration . Well, only another nine months of this . Good luck to all of us. Bunny

We have the problem with writing at all. Eric does the moving around thing when he has to study spelling.. I have come to the point where if the words are harder I have him help me in the kitchen while we spell some words. Most of the time though, our problem is getting him to write at all. Now thats when the games begin... The little stories, like I can't call or email the teacher. He must think I am not going to. I talk to the teacher so much we are on first name basis and Eric been inschool only 3 weeks. HEHE!!!! ;D Have a peaceful day, Christina

Yup - had our huge blow out tonight over homework. He didn't want to do it when he first got home (we had a routine last year - but we have to get there again). This evening - he had to interview two people about math and write the answers down, and then read for 20 min. Well - he actually whined only a couple of times for the writing part - which is abnormal for my dysgraphic "I hate writing" kid - he did his interviews on his HWT paper - I can see a difference already - I can actually READ it. And then there was the 20 minutes of reading. Where did my child go? Thank goodness our neighbors have airconditioning and their windows are closed (ours are open)!! You would have thought we were stabbing him with knives!! He was too tired! He needed to go to bed. This coming from my insomniac!!! I just looked at him and said - hey were you asked to do homework this afternoon? Yes! Did you do it? No. When are you going to do your homework tomorrow? When I get home. For real? Yes. Great. But guess what - you DIDN'T do it when you got home today so get reading!!! After his 20 minutes of hysteria he calmly read for 20 minutes and then went up to bed!! We'll see what happens tomorrow!!!

We had a blow out over homework yesterday too. To top it off it was with my non ADHDer who rarely gives me problems. He had everything done but his typing and was trying to get it finished. I read the directions and explained it to him, but he was still doing it wrong. Everytime I told him he was doing it wrong he got mad. Eventually he started banging on the keyboard and yelled at me that he was turning it in just like that. O.K. fine. I sent in a little note with to the keyboarding teacher this morning explaining his little outburst. I also grounded him from the PS2 and computer (except for homework) for a week. He is not a happy camper.

Uh Aimee, word of advise... make sure teacher gets the note. Cami used to be sneaky and not give it to the teacher, and she is bad about scribbling out comments I write on things I have to sign too. She says it embarasses her. So, I just resorted to email instead. Now as far as the nagging competition.... I don't know guys... remember I am dealing with a pre-hormonal girl here. Not only do I nag about homework, but let's add "go clean your room", "pick up your clothes", "straighten your bathroom", "wet towels go in the hamper", "your shoes go in your room", "get off the phone, you've been on it long enough" etc, etc.

Actually, so far things look pretty good. As long as we don't have any written assignments, Jarrett does pretty good with the homework. He brings his reader home 3 times a week and a library book twice a week. That's been okay, cause I let him wait until bedtime to do his reading. He lays in bed and reads to me. The only other homework he has is going over his spelling words every night. He got a 100% on his test last week, which made me happy. ;D This week the words are a lot tougher, though. However, he does better on the tougher words. One of them is "different", I can't remember the others off the top of my head. I remember that one because he kept leaving out the last "e", but he finally got that down last night. At least, when I asked him this morning, he spelled it right. I think he concentrates harder on the bigger words, and doesn't make silly mistakes. Keep your fingers crossed that things keep going well!
