I have a 7 year old son who has ADHD and his Dr, just put him on Risperdal for severe aggression. He also has some learning difficulties he is just beginning to make progress with. Does anyone know if the Risperdal could or will slow that process down?

I can only answer from a clonodine perspective (a medication similar to risperdal in that it is for aggression)... It did help my sd greatly with the aggression, once she seemed more in control we weaned her off it... Last year she did ok in school, better then the year before, since the aggression was removed my step daughter was able to make friends, and gained some self esteem... Which are both good things and ultimately help the educational issues...
I wouldnt say she gained tremendous ground educationally, but she did continue to learn at her already set lower pace... If that makes any sense!
All kids are different, and I would say try it, if you think it is hurting educationally try to get a behavior modification written into the IEP... Or possibly another medication... When the kids are constantly in trouble, or losing their recess time because of aggression no one is gaining ground... Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. He has been an the Risperdal for almost two weeks the DR. did lower the dose to .25mg bid and he is doing real well. He is a totally different little boy. School starts in a few weeks so we will see how he does. Thank You again Rachel
