I need to vent. I did this last night but then my computer froze up and I lost it all!
Cami has been swimming again officially now with the Hurricanes since last Monday night. It is a nightly thing. Until last night noone has spoke to me. None of the seasoned parents have said so much as hello, much less welcome, how are you, etc. Last night I left a little perturbed but I don't know if it just has to do with the fact I have a cold and wasn't feeling well. Anyway here's a rundown:
I usually go to Curves while Cami's at practice but last night I decided to walk around the park adjacent to the pool instead. I walked for an hour with a cold in the humidity so maybe I was just oversensitive.
After walking I went up to the pool to watch for Cami the final 30 minutes. While there Cam's coach was talking to me and it came out that we live in Harris County. Columbus is another county. Anyway, the president of the team then asked Cami what grade she is in which lead to him bad-mouthing her school going on and on about how his son went there for two years and how much trouble the son had until he decided to sell his house and buy a new one in Columbus and move to get his son out of the horrible school. He was specific in telling me where his house was and I got the distinct impression he was doing so to let me know it was a nice, rich neighborhood. Then another lady chimed in and was making a point to tell me how big and nice and fancy his house was, how big his lot, how fancy the landscaping, on and on, and again mentioning the neighborhood I guess in an attempt to make me see what a sacrifice he had made leaving there. I politely said I was not familiar with the neighborhood since Harris County is a huge county and we are on the other side of where he was but I could relate to the school trouble. The other lady then mentioned to the pres that she didn't see how he lived that far out anyway, she couldn't because of the long drive. I replied it really isn't that long and the pres sarcasticly said, "yeah, well, to you, how long have you been doing it, maybe a year?" I told him no we had moved out there when Cami was 4 and she was almost 14 now. He changed the subject into trying his best to find out EXACTLY where we live, wanting a subdivision name. Do they judge us on where we live or something? When he found out the area of Harris County we are in he then turned the conversation into where he works...in a small town about 45 minutes past us. He started talking about how he takes a short lunch everyday so he can get off early enough to get son to practice, but this was not that big of a sacrifice because the small town he works in has nothing to do there and no decent places to eat lunch at anyway. He started telling the other lady about a new place that has opened there though that he is liking. It is a coffee/sandwich shop that sells stuff like cappucinos and wraps. She asked if it was getting good business and he said (and this is the part that bothered me a little) "no. but you know, those type of people that live in those kind of towns (being a small, country town) don't like that kind of stuff. You know, they prefer barbeque and fried stuff." Y'all should be proud of me because I just excused myself and got away before I said something. I figured it best for Cami but oh boy did I want to reply to him! I wanted so bad to say, "uh, no...I'm not sure what "type" of people you are referring to. Are you referring to the good 'ol country folk that live there and make it their home after a hard day of working and SWEATING while doing so? The blue collar "type" of people that had to scrimp and save to buy their HUMBLE home that they don't have the option of selling at the drop of a hat to buy a new one because they don't like the school junior goes to? Is that the "type" you mean?" ARGH!!! It just came across as so snobby to me! Anyway..... is it just me? Maybe the cold and the humidity had gone to my head! ;D
