I haven't been able to catch you on IM, but a friend of mine is going to Pensacola for the weekend. Her daughter wants to shoot fireworks off the beach. Is that allowed in Pensacola? The hotel guy she talked to was rude and refused to tell her.

I'll have to check on that. Fireworks used to be illegal here, but now some are sold at Wal-Mart and such places so the law may have changed. As far as setting them off at the beach, the city normally has their display there, but because of Ivan destroying a lot of the beach I don't know what's happening this year.

If I'm remembering right, the beaches "close" at dusk. Fireworks will be set off from the beach, but I think the onlookers will be closer to town. The Blue Angels will be having a show at the beach Saturday if that's something your friend would enjoy. Maybe the hotel guy knew that it wouldn't be allowed but didn't want to tell them because he was afraid they wouldn't come. I haven't had the Messenger on much lately. I sometimes forget about it. Also this week I've been working full time because we're buried at work.

Thanks. I'll pass this on. She was told by a friendlier hotel clerk when she made the reservations about the Blue Angels. Her 12 year old dd is the one wanting the fireworks. I think she just decided on getting her some sparklers and maybe a few "poppers".

What county are you in Sandy? I saw where flash flood watches hae been issued for some Florida counties due to TS Cindy. I hope all is well there. I hope my friend gets out before it gets too bad as well (IF it is expected there).

We're in Escambia county--the western most part of the panhandle. We are under a tropical storm warning (NOT AGAIN!! and who knows what Dennis is going to do--never a dull moment!) Since there shouldn't be people evacuating or anything I would think your friend should get out fine. The weather isn't bad yet--just overcast.

I so feel for all the people on the gulf coast! It is literally just one after another!! Cindy won't be through good before Dennis makes his presence known. ARGH!! Escambia County is one of the ones I saw under the Flash Flood Watch yesterday. I guess that was upgraded to the TS warning, huh? Haven't heard from Traci but plan to try to call her in a little while. Y'all buckle down and be careful. Man, I'm starting to sound like a broken record telling you that. LOL (even though it isn't really funny!)

I think we actually had both a flash flood watch and tropical storm warning. Cindy is past us now. We had a good amount of rain and some pretty strong wind. It actually seemed worse than Arlene was 3 weeks ago. Apparently the power was out here at the house for about 1 1/2 hours. It stayed on at work, though. Actually, that's good because there's sooo much to be done there. This morning the National Hurricane Center had the projected path for Dennis as dead on for us. I figured that meant we are safe because they never follow the projected path exactly--especially a projected path this many days in advance. ;D That is funny about telling us to be careful--again. This storm stuff is getting CRAZY! Property in FL is going to be really cheap soon. No one is going to want to live here! About the fireworks, I don't know why I didn't think of it, but in our neighborhood people set off some pretty impressive ones, and each year we seem to get better and better ones. That would lead me to believe that they are legal. DH read, though, that about the only thing that's actually legal is sparklers!

Linda, tell me more! ;D
Amsmom, I've been thinking about you, too. Are you expecting to get much from the storm? It looks like a large storm that will cover then entire gulf! My eyes were probably deceiving me, but it did look big.

We have a lot of empty fields in back of our houses...especially in my neighborhood. It sounded like a war was going on!!!The fireworks were awesome though...they lit up the sky. They are totally illegal in the city but it didn't stop a lot of people.

Sounds like they're illegal a lot of places but people ignore the laws.
Well, Dennis preparation is in full force here. UGH!!

Thanks. I have a feeling it's going to go east of here, but of course I don't know. We bought all the food we could find tonight at the store. Gas stations are already out of gas. I wonder if a lot of people are leaving town tomorrow for the weekend.
