I'm thinking about asking Brooke's teacher to move her as close to her desk as possible. Just wondering, where does everyone's kids sit in class? If it is right next to the teacher? If so, does this help?
Thanks,

My son sits in the front of the row. It does help keep him on task - and the teacher can keep an eye on him in case he needs any support.
In math he has been moved a few seats back from the front - that teacher feels he does better.
My thinking is putting them in the 2nd or 3rd seat back allows them to view other children who are sitting still and on task - kind of a good example method, while still close enough to the teacher.

My daughter its near the teacher. Not right next to her.My daughter had to be reminded to stay on task alot.Yes it helps. The teacher works in two areas,at her desk and at a little table in the back of the room.My daughter sits between these two areas. It's written into her IEP that she should sit near the teacher.

My son is close to the teachers desk, in case he needs support and a reminder or 2 to focus on his work, it seems to work for him.

DS sits as close to the teacher's desk as physically possible. (The desks are set up in clusters - 4 desks - 2 sided by side facing the other 2).
It seems to help - I guess it makes it easier for the teacher to keep on eye on him - make sure he is staying on task, etc.

Hi, I was told by my son "Smart kids in back and slower students in FRONT." Via....My 2nd grader is FRONT row center and my 4th grader is very back ROW. His teacher even told me that's usually how they do it. I LIKE the idea of putting on the IEP that my child is sitting CLOSE to the teachers DESK! She too needs to be reminded to KEEP on task on a steady basis. LIKE that idea! What I DON'T like is she is sitting DESKS TOUCHING with two other students that is STRUGGLING as much as her!! I rather she have space between them! I might say something about that? She picks up bad ideas from those other students alot of times. Take care......Madison

Madison,
Ask the teacher how she clusters them. One good thing that our teacher does - is mix them up a bit. Although DS is always as close to her as possible - she does have some of the "smart" and well behaved kids clustered with him. That way there is less distraction for him and it probably helps subconsiously reinforcing good habits, etc. There is one other child in his class that has some problems like DS's - he sometimes sits right next to DS or in another cluster near the teacher. They kind of rotate alot. If all the kids with the same problems sat next to each other - it isjust going to be more distracting. And when the also probably learn that their behavior is not different - if every one around them tends to be doing the same things.
Just a thought.

Ds sits in front of the chalk board the teachers desck is in back of the class ( different! apparently she doesnt sit there much) this was one the the 1st thing I requested as soon as school stared these kids need to be in front where they can be in close contact with teacher, I know for ds she is supposed to make sure he is looking at her when she talks and an occational touch on the shoulder or call out his name just to keep him from woundering off.....

in my son's clas the desks are set up in clusters. she switches clusters every so often. he has been in many different spots. there is an in class support teacher in the class that helps the classified children and the whole class in general. there is no rhyme or reason how the kids sit but it seems to work!!!!

It's in Ds' 504 plan that he's to sit close to the point of instruction. The kids desks are arranged in a U, with the bottom of the U in front of the blackboard. Ds sits just left of center of the front. This way the teacher can ensure he's paying attention to directions, etc.

My son sits front and center of the class room in front of the chalk board. This is also in his 504 plan. Although in previous years he has sat right beside the teachers desk, but we (being the teacher and I) discoverd that he was way more distracted right beside her, becuase of all of the other children comming up to her desk needing help also. I had never thought of this before, but he is doing way better in the front of the class than beside her desk. It maybe something that you might want to think about also.

Sounds weird and I don't know why ::)but Paul has always asked to sit in the BACK of the class That's an easy one. If you're sitting in the back you can see EVERYTHING else that's going on in class and you don't have to turn around to do it.

Angelia, I think your right on the seating by the teacher thing! Yes...she would probably get VERY distracted by the students coming up and needing help! I'll have to re-think my first thought. I do like the idea of mixing them up so not ALL the slow students are so close together! I think that really hurts mine. Take care...Madison
