My daughter has been going to speech for quite awhile (she's 9). The other kids only know she gets to leave class and play games with the ST. She love's the one on one attention and have never felt " Dumb" and none of the other children make fun of her. Getting testing done will just give you another tool to help your son, you are letting him down if you just ignore the problem, not if you try to help him. Hang in there.

Do you know who Mel Tellis is? He has a studdering problem, but can sing words normally. I saw a preacher on TV the other day that was the son of the preacher in the Crystal Cathedral church. He said that he couldn't read and got in college and took music. He said that he put the materials in a musical format in his mind from then on and never had another problem. I don't know alot about it, but it seems to make a difference in many situations.

Thanks George ... I don't know who Mel Tellis is BUT I do know who Gareth Gates (a young English singer) is ... and exactly the same thing happens with him !!
However, having said that Jenninae does your child stutter at all or is it a different speech problem altogether?

Anne, Mel Tellis a country singer .
Paul went to speech in elementary school and he never stuttered.. but he sure had a hard time with the letter L ;D ;D Of course that is all in the past and he loved to be pulled out....he thought the speech teacher was cool!!
