Just asking for you to think of us tonight or tomorrow when dh goes in for shoulder surgery tomorrow. They can fix the problem w/ a scope so they won't have to open him up--just three little holes in the shoulder area. I guess it's still a very painful recovery. Sorry to all the men on the forum but..... If any of your men are like mine I'll have my hands full. He has the "poor me syndrome" He is the biggest baby when it comes to him being laid up in bed or not feeling well. It's like end of world.

Oh, my thoughts are with you too! I am having wrist surgery next Monday, and I already feel like the big baby in the making! I have already told my Scouts that I can't go camping with them the following weekend, and I don't plan on joining them for the Whitewater Rafting Trip in June either... I am so sure that I just won't be up to handling a paddle. I also feel nervous that I won't be able to type on my computer, and I will only be reading what you all are saying, not adding to it... DH says that without my hands, I can't talk. I am just positive that I will be very quiet for the next few weeks Really, I am sure that he has some justification to be a baby... I am worrying about shampooing my hair, brushing my teeth, deodorant, eating (I am left handed and it is my left wrist that needs repair), and toileting. I can understand very well what he is feeling, and I am honestly frustrated that DH keeps telling me that I am over reacting. I am not so sure in this case it is a male thing, as just a feeling of being vulnerable. Let us know how he makes out, okay? I especially need words of encouragement to get me through the next week! Laurie

I have to have the DeQuervain tendon released in my left wrist. The tendon and sheaf have a lot of scar tissue, so my thumb and hand are numb and painful. It started 15 months ago with a ski injury. I broke two bones in my wrist then, and tore the tendon. When it was nearly healed, I reinjured it and now there is concern that there is a cyst on one of the bones, or a necrotic section of bone.
The doctor is going to do the Dequervain release and then follow it up with arthroscopic surgury with 4 more incisions. When she finds the root cause, then she will do the repairs as necessary. I have been told it could take a minimum of 45 minutes, and upwards of 5 or 6 hours depending on what they find.
DH thinks it is a no big deal thing, I am making arrangements to get the kids to karate lessons and boy scouts for the week. I have cancelled the PTA meeting scheduled for Tuesday night, since the President won't be coherent. I already have my VCR set to record the season finale of 7th Heaven for me since I am not sure I will be able to focus on it.
In the mean time, I am trying to prepare my life for the down time. I have scads of books to read, plus the rest of Patrick's homeschool work for the year. I bought model rockets for the boys to work on with dad while I am resting. My kitchen is FLYing, and my living room too. DH did a hot spot on my computer desk tonight and we wrote the bills for the next months so that we just have to seal and send them. I have been making double batches of food, freezing half so that the men are fed a little bit next week.
Now, I find out that DH has planned to take the day off of work. I am sure that Patrick will love the substitute teacher for the day! Actually, he was thinking of taking him to the Frankin Institute to study electricity. It fits in nicely with our history lessons of the semester... so it should actually be good for them. But me, the big baby... I want my teddy bear.
Keep telling me to be brave... the worst is over right? It can't be any worse than the night I messed it when I fell on the ski slopes right in front of my two best buddies, who are also on the ski patrol with me... There was great comedy in a patroller getting hurt...
Well, I am not seeing straight, I guess I am sleeping at the keyboard. Best wishes Brock's mom with your big baby tomorrow.

Well we're home everything went ok. He has a pain pump connected right to the site that automatically pumps pain meds. They also gave him a shot... right in the neck ... of some really good numbing meds(lasts about 14 hrs) Other than being a little "loopy" he's doing ok. He has the pump until Fri. Then I think the pain might be a little more noticeable, But he has a lot of tylox(a very good pain med) to help w/ that. Thanx for for thinking of us. I was thinking of all of you today while I was waiting.

Hope all is still going well...those scope surgeries can be really painful!! DH's bosses DW just had it done on her knee and she is in pretty rough shape. She can get up and around, but she said that it is still sore as all get out, and she is a really tough lady
