I think it's a matter of upbringing------ya know..I hate to say it like that but it's the truth.
Some of the kids I work with don't blink an eye when I get loud, others "cower" and I feel really bad about raising my voise like I did.
That's basically it.....if they don't have the upbringing and the other "adults" are worried about their image if "telling" on a child...there'swehere That child is...
Hope that helped.Kaiti

Linda The sad truth, in here anyway, is that they dont learn respect at home anymore Parent´s are too "busy" to spend time with their children . that make´s me think why they even had any children something wrong with their upbringing If you dont have to listen at home, why should yu listen anywhere else eather sad, but so true. Hmmmmm... no good advises come´s to mind, sorry Marja

Oh how I love to tell a child Because I'm the adult here. It does get so frustrating. I think that's why I prefer to work with little kids. I don't have the ability to talk to tweens and reason with them. It shouldn't even be to reason, but I also think it might be one of those Let me see how far I can push you things. I don't know if you remember, last year there was a boy I mentioned that was going through a tough time. YUP, he told me he didn't have to listen to me cause I wasn't his mom. And I did the I'm the adult and got the "SO WHAT, I DON"T CARE" I was not a happy camper. So I talk to his mom and she said if he ever decides to tell me that again to call her, and she'll call a friend of hers that dealt VERY WELL with his additude. Yes, he did it again, but as soon as I said I'd be talking with mom AND she'd be calling this friend, he stomped off since it took the wind out of his sails. I am still at a loss as to why kids act like that........One of those unexplained no respect things. Sorry Kaiti

Our middle and High schools have security and police officers roaming the halls. We are not a large city either.Paul text messaged me from school a couple of weeks ago and told me security was now using "pepper spray" on students for breaking up fights!! He saw it happen and it was 2 girls fighting. If you are standing around and watching the fight, you will be sprayed also! It may be a sign of our times...but I don't like it.

Oh wow Linda .... security and police officers plus the use of "pepper spray" !.. I agree with you ... I don't like the sound of this either!... Do you think the high schools are really 'that bad' OR do you think this is an "extreme" reaction by the authorities?

I have been out of school for, well let's say more than ten years. I went to one high school (in CA) that had security guards roaming the halls. Although they didn't use pepper spray, they did have the police batons. I never saw them being used, but then again I was only there for half the year. (This Kentucky girl couldn't handle the CA school system.) I think I would worry if I saw pepper spray, batons, etc. in the high schools here.

Anne,I don't think they are taking it to the extreme...we have a lot of kids who have no respect for authority...PERIOD!!
Aimee...I don't like the idea of pepper spray either...there are a lot of upset parents.
