A little Bible trivia for any who may be interested....
According to Matthew 27:5 Judas hanged himself. But Acts 1:18 says, "pitching head foremost he noisily burst in his midst and all his intestines were poured out." Matthew seems to deal with the mode of the attempted suicide, while Acts describes the result. Combining the two accounts, it appears that Judas tried to hang himself over some cliff, but the rope or tree limb broke so that he plunged down and burst open on the rocks below. The topography around Jerusalem makes such an event conceivable.

Did anyone notice the soldier's pulling off John's coat as he ran away from the Garden of Gethsemane? And, after the woman (Saint Veronica) wiped His face, did you see the imprint of Christ's face on the cloth?
My favorite part of the whole movie was when Christ "crushed" the head of the snake. Talk about foreshadowing! I'm assuming Gibson intended that to illustrate that Christ crushed the head of the serpent like God said He would way back in Genesis.
Something else to read, Ralph! (BTW the Saint Veronica part isn't in the Bible. It's part of Christian lore, however.)

Dad2Brooke, I think that's a very interesting observation. As brutal as Jesus' crucifixion was, it was the spiritual battle that deserves much emphasis. By being crucified, Jesus took our punishment and satisfied God's holiness. He made a way for us all to have a relationship with God. Thus, God's incredible love for us could also be satisfied. Satan was defeated at the cross because we each could be reconciled to God instead of bound to sin and hell.
