Ok D2B, I'm infringing on your territory!
What's your favorite book or author?
I'm a sci-fi freak so I love Tolkein's "The Lord of the Rings". I also love the Shannara books by Terry Brooks, along with everything else he's ever written. Anything by David Eddings is great, too. I also love detective novels.....of course I'll read anything I can get my hands on as long as it's fiction. I read for pleasure and it's hard for me to get into the "educational" stuff.

By far (no contest)- The Lord of the Rings trilogy along with the Simarilion!! (Yes - I am one of those geeky people that have read all four of these along with the Hobbit (and a whole bunch of the Unfishished Works books that Christopher Tolkein has put together) - once a year since I was 14). I love CS Lewis, the Narnia Chronicles and the Peralandra Trilogy. I know these are "kid" books too - but love Madeline L'Engle (especially the Wrinkle In Time trilogy). I also love anything by Tom Robbins and Kurt Vonnegut. Oh yes, and the Left Behind series. (Like any of us has a whole lot of time to read . . . )

OK, I don't really have any particular author that I can say is a favorite. I like to read the self-help books and decorating things.
If I do sit down to read, it is more likely a magazine, or a book of quotaions. I do love to read the 13th edition of Familiar Quotations. I usually like to send a quote to people that is relavent to situations and hope it makes them feel a little better.
OH have a good one Kaiti

I love to read "true stories." I love to read auto-biographies and "who dunnit" books. I just read a book called "The Will to Murder." It is about the Congdon murders at the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, MN. Fascinating book. It was written by the lead investigatory and the prosecuting attorney. For those of you who aren't familiar with this story, it happened in the seventies and is to MN and WI like the OJ trial was to CA! Right now I am reading "Let Freedom Ring" by Shawn Hannity. I also love Bill O'Reily's books. I also love to read Mary Higgins Clark books (although they are fiction).

Oh, boy...books!
I love Barbara Michaels, John Grisham, Ann Rule, Michael Crichton, Jean Auel, and I'm just finishing Beverly Cleary's autobiographies. Remember, she wrote about Henry Huggins and Ramona? Anyway, she had an interesting life, and I'm really enjoying them. I also like Anita Shreve. I've read several of her books, and they have unexpected endings. I like that. I love the Wrinkle in Time books, too.
When I was little, Nancy Drew was the best, followed closely by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Judy Blume, and of course Beverly Cleary.

I love books. I can read just about anything. Some of my favs are: Harry Potter, LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia, anything by Danielle Steel (Mom2TJ check out Mirror Image if you haven't read it), John Grisham, Dean Koontz, Madeline Baker, Barbara Park, Judy Blume, Sidney Sheldon, Janelle Taylor. These are just a few of my favs. I also love the Chicken Soup books.
We are a very book friendly household. The kids got mostly books for Christmas. I hope they grow up to love books as much as I do.
I also love to read magazines. We have several different subscriptions.
Whenever I have free time, you will catch me with something to read.

Dog gone it you want me to pick one book? One author? Are you nuts?
Fiction: SF and Fantasy. Prefer my SF hard and my fantasy really out there. Loved LOTR and read it straight through in my teens. Two nights of no sleep. I did the same thing with Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series, and Frank Herbert's Dune and sequels. Never put down an unfinished Heinlein, and just finished rereading the Cheysuli Chronicles (8 books) by Jennifer Roberson over the xmas holidays.
I've also read the Silmarrilion (how's that spelled again?) cover to cover - once.
Narnia, and the out of the silent planet trilogy by c.s. lewis
Marion Zimmer Bradley (rest in peace)
Well I guess I've made my fiction interests pretty clear.
Nonfiction topics
Parenting, ADHD, Information overload, Humane Interfaces, anything about the origins of the universe and the dawn of the human species.
Been getting a deep reacquaintance with the Bible from reading along with Bean Sprout. That boy's a born fundamentalist. Don't know how he came by that given he's got a couple of hippie refugees for parents. Must have skipped a generation. He nearly hit the ceiling today in science class when the teacher described the big bang. I had to sit him down tonight and tell him that many if not most astronomers, physicists and astrophysicists are deeply religious. The see the hand of God in the dim light of distant galaxies and in the arcane equations explaining the various attributes of quarks.
I read the bible cover to cover first page to last myself when I was his age. Gave me a distinct advantage over a lot of the cultists I ran into during college and later. I hope to help him through the same journey and give him the same immunity to junk theology.
Hope I didn't offend anybody. It's late and I'm rambling.

Hey Sierra, my mom about hit the floor when I took Biology in HS. Not that I was the holier than thou type to people, I just don't believe in the big bang theory or that I came from a fish or what not. Any how, I almost flunked the year because our big test was on the Big Bang theory. hmmmm, the teacher gave an open book test, she didn't SAY which book. So a friend of mine and I quoted the Bible on the whole test. BUT, because it was what I was raised with, mom backed me. She told me that next time to bend a little just so I could pass. I told her I'd do it again, so YUP I realized I am my father's "hard headed, determined, to prove MY point" daughter. Now, where do my kids get it from again? ? Must be their father Kaiti

I love books! I too read the Hobbit and LOTR books back in the late 70's or early 80's. Loved them them as much as now but now I need to reread them!
Now I spend my reading time in Christian books and the bible. One of my most favorite books is "Calm my anxious heart" by Linda Dillow. It is about worrying, not trusting the Lord, and discontentment. It has taught me so much to use in my marriage and raising kids. I also like Beth Moore's books and bible studies.
My favorite kid's books are The 3 trees (can't remember the author), The Treasure Tree by Trent and Smalley (about various personality differences of friends on a kid level) and If Jesus Came To My House by Gale Thomas (not sure of her last name and I don't want to wake my daughter to check!) Oh, and Little Britches by Moody, this is a great boy's novel series about ranch life in early Colorado days similar to Little House on the Prairie approach.
Gotta go read now! Lori
