(not trying to be offensive to anyone, all in good clean fun, because Lord KNOWS we don't have the money to buy all this crap new ) Oh and to update you all, I had to buy heating oil.... 150 gallons for $289.50 :oWe are NOT heating a barn though, oh wait, the kids think we do

When I was first getting started on my own I went to the rich neighborhoods on garbage day with my boyfriend who had a pick up truck. Back in those days people would put old furniture out on the curb to be picked up. This was in the L. A. and Hollywood area. Now everything goes in a large flip top green plastic garbage container so you couldn't do it these days.
It was great, I furnished my whole appartment and never spent a dime! You wouldn't believe what rich people would throw away.

Christy, no harm in being thrifty!
I have a really great talent for falling into thrift.
For my wedding... I had my BF, the florist, make the bouquets for a wedding gift. I bought the silks, and she arranged them all. She couldn't afford any other gift, and being that I got married the day before mother's day, she couldn't take the day off to be in the wedding.
The wedding cake, I swindled my sisters BIL the pastry chef into giving as a gift!
The video, I bought DH a fancy camera, and talked his BIL into using it (he was a photographer before he got married!) BIL was career Military, so I got him to wear his uniform, save the price of renting the suit. My Dad wouldn't hire a limo... he went to Enterprise and rented a dark Lincoln Sedan.
My sister ran the Community Center in town. She was my maid of honor. Since she was soooo "stressed" about the wedding, she took the week off, so she closed the building for her vacation... She couldn't charge a room rental fee if the building was closed, so we got the Ballroom for free! Another of her BIL's ran a liquor store... we got cheap kegs of beer.
Since she ran the building with the ballroom, she called all the local caterers and offered them a deal... you cut my sister a good deal, and I'll steer renters to your catering business. I got a Roast Beef dinner for $8/plate!
Our priest got removed 2 weeks before the wedding, so the church tried to double the fee to have a substitute come in... but we found a co-worker of DH that was ordained as a Catholic Deacon. We had a ceremony in the church... no mass... and we didn't have to pay the "customary fee"... the guy just requested an invitation for his wife and asked us to pay for their babysitter... it was a cheap date for them!
And my favorite cheap wedding trick... I bought a pair of pretty Nurse Mate shoes, and broke them in at work for two weeks before the wedding, then wore them for another 3 years, until my pregnant feet got to big and puffy to fit in them anymore!
When my sister got married a year later, she used my veil... not one of those things that the snobs in town would bother to check out as a hand me down. She also wore my great grandmother's shoes (they were the only two people who would fit a size 4 shoes)
It isn't cheap, it's THRIFTY!

We done it the easy way..I only spent 65$ on the dress. We got married in a meadow and actually made family and friends walk three blocks into the field to the exact spot we had chosen...(yeah they were so thrilled) Then we slipped out of the reception..(my lil sis made the cake for a grade in her cake decorating classs..it was free) I changed out of my dress into jeans in the car going down the highway. We spent a weekend at a hotel( in a town where bobo had played a gig once) where I made friends with a couple of doberman guard dogs and pissed of the stablishment. (back when I drank) Enough champaigne and dobies do really resemble poodles to me. (I no longer drink.) A nice couple at the hotel celebrating their 25th paid for our room as a wedding gift. Yeah I am cheap.

BUT, all of you HAVE TO BE KIDDING!!!! !!! WOW! Are you all telling the truth or am I a sucker for believing all you've said? Sorry, but TRUTH is stranger than fiction! And more fun too! I once got stopped for running a red light... the cop asked me why, so I told him... I started to sneeze and I couldn't keep my eyes open when I sneezed, so by the time the sneeze was done, the light had turned yellow and I was too close to stop safely. He laughed and told me that no one could make up such a stupid story, so he let me go with just a warning!

Well, when it comes to weddings, I guess I can compete some in thriftyness. Andy and I got married in my daddy's yard. I did buy my dress but found it on sale at Gayfers and got a good deal. My stepmom has a good friend that's good at making cakes so she got her to make it as a gift for us and favor for her. I had gotten this gift certificate thing in the mail from a florist that just openend giving you $100.00 towards arrangements. Since it was such a small wedding, and a second for each of us, we didn't go all out in flowers, so I was able to get my and my moh's bouquet as well as dh's and bestman's boutineere and my mom and stepmom's corsage for just over the $100.00. Then of course my stepmom, aunts, and sister made all the food for the reception. We rented a few chairs and an archway from a rental place and placed a ficus tree daddy had behind the archway along with a couple of my sm's pretty ferns beside it. For our honeymoon we got two nights free of charge in a log cabin in nearby Pine Mountain in trade for dh putting a billboard up for the man that owns the log cabin.

Here is our wedding, Minister $20 donation, Elks club free (dad was the head elk or whatever it was called) Organist= wedding present, cake= wedding present, band=wedding present, rings=dad fixed jewelers car/jeweler gave dad gift cert to thank him/dad gave gift cert to us, car w/driver=wedding present, tape=friend, flowers=wedding present, dress last years rack at dress store 70% off. DH and I lived together for 2 years before we got married, so we did not need anything for the house, everyone had something they could do for the wedding instead. We did have to pay for the food and drinks. Also DH has a knack for finding things people are getting rid of. We have an extra couch and dresser in our garage that we dont have room for in the house. If he keeps bringing home stuff, we wont have room for us. ;D
