Since I last wrote, the peditrician has changed his meds 2x. Awhile on Metadate and now Adderall XR. Same emotional outbursts on both. It's been a nightmare so far. He is not making the noises in class or talking out and is getting good marks on his behavior report but he has been an emotional wreck. This week he actually had a break down in class and sat under his desk and cried for about 20 minutes. He also complains all the time that his heart is pounding. He told me yesterday that he was going to jump out of the car so he would be dead. We have an appt. with a ADHD specialist/counselor next week. I am taking him off the meds until then. I'm not against the medication, I just think we need an opinion from a doctor that deals with ADHD all of the time, in addition to getting counseling as well. Thank you for your support. I have recommended this web site to some of the parents at school. Wish us luck. I will let you know what the specialist says.

Well, the doctor feels that there are no other underlying disorders. He felt that we just haven't found the right med yet. He gave us a rx for desoxyn. So, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the support.

I had never heard of before either. It's in the stimulant family. The specialist didn't seem too interested in Straterra, which is the only non-stimulant. The generic name for desoxyn is methamphetamine, which kinda spooks me a little. He takes this 3x a day. Today was the first day and so far so good (knock on wood). His teacher said he got all his work done no problem and no emotional stress or signs of stress. I'm really hoping this will be the answer for him.

Still doing well. I let him take a week off of meds for Spring Break because he stayed with my parents. He's jumped right back in and was excited about going back to school to see his teacher and friends. (a complete turn around from a few months ago) I'm hoping we're finally on solid ground. Thanks for the support!!

Things continued to go well. We're going to let him take the summer off of the meds. We have been pleased with the Desoxyn and the specialist. He actually diagnosed me as well and the meds he gave me seem to be helping too. So far, things are going well.
