I just followed the links to this board as I'm always in search of more information or advice. At least that's the way it's been lately. MomX2 means mom times 2 which is how many kids I have. Only the younger one has been diagnosed with ADHD and I'm still questioning whether this is the correct diagnosis or not. You may notice I mention pets a lot because I work with animals and own several including dogs, cats, hamster and house rabbits. I'm very interest in pet related therapy and hope to be more involved with it in the future when I have more time (and more freedom from a very demanding child). One thing I would like to do is work on the initial training for a puppy planning to do assisted therapy.
I'll just apologize in advance if I seem to go off on a tangent from time to time. Sometimes I do that. It's possible I have ADHD like my daughter but I really don't know. The cost of finding out if I do is a bit prohibitive at this point.
Basically where I'm at with my daughter right now is confused, frustrated, annoyed and only rarely hopeful when she is especially cooperative about something. She is truely a wonder, beautiful, interesting and sprited child but she has the ability to wreck havoc on our family on a daily basis.

Hi Momx2 and welcome to our forums. I am so glad that you have joined us. My ADHD-son, who is 17, gets the occasional migraine and I have never thought that ADHD and migraines may be possibly related. I've learned something from you already. My son also has a love of pets -- dogs, cats, fish, etc. and works as an assistent in a vet clinic on Saturdays.
My son is dysgraphic (cannot write) and I have read that ADHD children have a higher incidence of that.
How about sleeping in? At 17, he can sure sleep in!!

momx2- I'm glad your here! This 'family' here is a great bunch. One small caveat though- you will likely develope an addiction as I have. I have to have my daily dose of ADHD Support (kind of like my obsession with the weather radar.) see you 'round'! Paul (songwriter)

We have all been there and are still struggling just as you are. The neat thing about this board is that you don't have to struggle alone anymore. Your last paragraph could have been written about Brooke, so I know how you feel. As a parent of an ADHD child, I find myself looking for anything positive, some small action that I can reward her for, because those times and actions always seem so few and so far between. She doesn't mean to act back, but she just never thinks any action through, so she is always wreaking havoc that she is sorry for, but unable to prevent from happening the next time around I love my daughter and wife (yep , she has it too) with my heart and soul, but there are times that I have to walk away or I will say or do something that I know I will regret. It's not easy, but this is a great place for commiseration and advice. We know what you are going through. Also, I am not sure how expensive it is to get tested for ADHD as an adult. There are quite a few websites that have questionaires that will help you determine in you may have ADHD. Just google "adult adhd testing" and go exploring. If the indication is there that you do have it, then the expense of treating it may well be worth the benefit. Is your daughter on any type of treatment?

How do you guys get by with once a day ADHD support? I log on at least twice and usually 4 times everyday!
MomX2, I know that I have the male version in my house of the kid who frustrates you! Michael makes me want to pull hair and teeth, simultaneously! I got the diagnosis last year, but due to other serious health problems, I had to put treatment on hold. But, when I was on meds, it was easier for me to work with Michael, I found I had a lot more patience with him.
Barry, the migraines... definitely in our case. I have been hospitalized 3 times with extreme migraines. Michael has had to stop all ADHD meds b/c his migraines get so much worse with them. He missed 7 days of school in October and was sent home 4 other days before we took him off the meds. No one else in the house gets the migraines.
Welcome aboard MomX2.
Laurie

Welcome MomX2!
You've seen me around on another board. I think you'll like it here, also. It's always nice to find more people who actually understand what you're going through! See you around!
