Well, to update (a bit) I just returned from an informal meeting with the teacher, principal, & for some reason, the school nurse. At least they are all interested in helping her NOW even before the assessment is done! They all agree one one thing at least, that she is a joy & not a discipline problem at all. They even mentioned that they have observed the empathy she has for other kids. Well, I knew all that from her other school & I wanted to see what they were going to do for her acedemically because, joy or not, I won't sit back & watch her fail classes. They agreed to get her extra help in math now & not wait for the assessment (she will get even more help then, but at least she'll be helped somewhat now also). The teacher agreed as well to check her assignment book each day & be sure she has her homework recorded in there. They also agreed to allow Shannon to dictate some of the longer assignments to me so she doesn't have so much writing to do & to allow reports to be typed so she can spell check (and so they can read it..lol). Oh & last but not least, they will allow printing instead of cursive on assignments. I did agree though, to have her practice some cursive at home. I bought a dry erase type cursive practice board that we will use here. Thats it for now. We were there for an hour this morning & I feel we got somewhere. At least they know I will be right there in their faces until I get her the help she needs. LOL!

Dawn, that sound´s like a great start Hmmm... sound´s like they really want to help her and you, that´s great. Plus, you made it clear that you will not tolerate anything but good work from their side Keep them on their toes and us posted on how it continues to go.

Thanks! I will keep youn posted. I will probably need plenty of guidance along the way, especially after the assessment as we start the process toward an IEP!
