Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes, however, I think I've decided I probably won't be able to post here. It seems many are really questioning why we've taken him off meds and keep saying that we can always put him back on......when someone says that it feels like you're questioning our decision and that eventually we'll be back on meds. He's doing wonderfully without them........and it just goes to show me that it was the right decision. Anyway, I appreciate your welcomes and I wish you all well with your children and the joys and struggles you will have. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your board for these few short days.

Oh Steph, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't take the posts you have read as people questioning your decison to take your son off medicine. We call this site "ADHD Support" and support is what we strive to give. We completely respect your decision and all parents decisions on whether or not to medicate. We have several parents here that treat their child through diet and several that medicate. We have never questioned (or meant to come across as doing so) anyone for this most difficult decision. I can ASSURE you (and trust me I have been here long enough to know how most everyone thinks) that noone meant to come across that way. I think what was meant instead was that since you have medicated in the past and it worked we were all just trying to reassure you that IF your son had problems and if YOU decided he needed the meds again they would be there. We have several parents that do not have that option. Meds have never worked for their child. Anyway, I know that is what I meant and again I am almost 100% sure that is what others meant too. I send my sincere apologies for coming across otherwise and want you to know that whatever you decide...to stay with us or not...I send you and your son my best wishes. Take care, Christy

Step, It was totally not our intention to offend you in anyway, not at all. As Christy said, this is called support site for a good reason; we do support everyone´s decision´s. I personally think that id you can do it without med´s, what could be better That´s the goal for all of us eventually(at least it´s my goal to get ds off med´s someday...) So please dont get offended by our responce´s.

Steph, If you want some practical help on treating ADHD without using medication, please visit the Natural Alternatives section of this forum. Whether you have specific questions or just want to talk about the issue in general, you'll find plenty of company!
I can tell you from personal experience that you don't have to use medication to treat ADHD. My son has never had to take medication. Diet changes and supplements work extremely well. I find he behaves at least as well as the children we know who are on medication for their ADHD. In addition, he no longer has ANY vocal tics, migraine headaches, or tantrums. All without medication. But be prepared to make a commitment to your son's treatment, since alternatives to medication inevitably involve more work (with less support) than do meds.
You've just discovered the first and largest obstacle to treating your child without drugs. It's hard to find help. There is help here, though, so don't give up. Come explore the Natural Alternatives area.
