By the way, as I read this stuff to my husband, he didn't laugh, he just stood there....YUP..... Another thing: we have 6 audio cassette players in the house, ummm, one works, sorta. We need 3 antennas, for the tv's that work, just aren't hooked up to cable.....hmmm where'd that splitter go, we had a couple of them around here somewhere too. Got enough cable line to run......oh well........ ok, time to relax, Good night Kaiti

Only 2/3 of my household have the pack rat disease...hubby piles, DD scatters, I toss. Right now this place is an absolute disaster...last spring I tore the ligaments in both feet and couldn't walk or stand very well, by the time I had stopped walking like my grandma I had surgery on my toe. Back to walking like grandma again. Then just as I was getting all fired up to get the cleaning done, I got called back to work!
I did manage to clean the kitchen, purge some junk, throw out the fossilized food collection, and wash the curtains! Tomorrow's project will be the bathroom if I can get hubby to do the floor for me. The cats ate my mop (no, really, they did) and since I went walking stairs with a friend of mine for exercise, I'm back to walking like grandma again. Will I ever learn?

Rosyred I dont have add(as I know, anyway ) but I have this huge problem; I HATE MESS!!!!!!!! And I mean I HATE IT, it make´s me gracy(I thing I mentioned it allready). The one thing that really make´s me gracy; It doesn´t seem to bother anyone else in here !!!!!! So I end up beeing a bad mother, tossing everyone´s most loved strash away. Well, someone has to do that. One thing you mentioned, swithing between summer and winter-clothes That´s a real pain in but, so to speek. Every spring and autumn, I find thing´s that SHOULD allready be packed up, laying around like laughing to me, then off to the garage(no room for car though) and through that pile to find the right box for that one item AARRGGHH!!!! Carry on, it get´s easier the lesser stuff you have to go through Marja

Thank you all for the encouragement.
WE MADE 2 TRIPS TO THE DUMP!!YIPPEE!!!
The back of the truck has 7 trash bags of clothes and toys for the drop box. I'm starting to get my sanity back!!
HUbby surprised me this morning. We got into a big arguement last night. What a way to end the year huh? Any how, I came down this morning, and the Christmas tree was out of the living room, floor swept and REARRANGED!!!!
He even E-mailed me a little poem. I feel bad because we were arguing, but I feel like I'm trying to get this all done w/out any help. I guess It must have struck some kind of cord. Don't know what time HE went to bed.
OH WELL, stranger things have happened. Kaiti

I'll see your clean rooms and raise you a decluttered basment. OK, I'm bluffing. They're not done yet. But, we did:
Throw out two coffee makers that dont work. I almost threw out a computer, but brought that back inside. (backslide). I moved a bunch of stuff into the attic. I took apart an old desk and put that at the curb. Moved a piano to a spot that makes more room for the kiddies to play at our son's upcoming 2nd b'day party. Tossed a bunch of old bad memories. Papers and stuff that connect me to a not so good time in my life, and since I dont need them and I dont need to remember that.. ADIOS! The house is in disarray right now, but there is progress being made. Oh, and three big bags of coats went to the clothes drop for a women's and childrens shelter. I tossed obsolete software and books that go with them, and the questionable got moved from the basement to the attic. There's still lots to do. Its amazing how progress can inspire you to keep going. I'm even making room for an exercise area.

Good, I'm not the only one making progress. Just remember: It always looks worse before it looks better.
I just have to say I DID HALF my clothing. Which might not seem like a lot to most, but having sweaters and shirts from, um, let's see, 1988 was a little dated. And boy did they look dated.
I sorted my canning jars for the most part, we still have a few I can toss, but they are in the basement and hubby told me he had that area. YEAH, like he'll mess with my canning stuff. He knows better.
Any how, I have more space to put the things away on the 3rd floor!!!!!!! As long as I put it away and nobody else, we're in good shape. I need to know where things are.
Keep Up the Tossing. Still have a couple more days to get it all done!!!!! Kaiti

BTW, Skylark, in my daughter's room is a MACINTOSH COMP(circa. school getting rid of because it was out dated) We can't throw it out. It is my back up, but thinking about it now, we might be able to live w/out it, I'll let you know in a couple of days.

OK, things are looking better! The Christmas stuff is put away, chocolate chip cookies are baked and ready for school lunches on Monday, laundry is done, kitchen is still clean, bed is made with clean sheets...I was on a roll.
The roll has gone downhill and stopped...the dog yakked on the bed, so now I get to do some more laundry since it soaked through the comforter and all the way down to the sheets. Yuk! I hate dealing with yak.
Wishing everyone a yak-free weekend!

Oh boy what fun!! i took apart three beds yesterday and reassembled them in different rooms! So now the kids will have a sleep room and a play room that can double as an extra guest room and we have our regular guest room! Wow.. the master bedroom has half a floor.. the kitchen is a mess but that is mostly hubby territory since he has taken over the dishes.. and i kept him busy last night with the bed assembly.
Got to dissasemble and reasseme the crib into the kid sleeping room and then get that toy room shuffled around and put together. The tree is undecorated and will probably be chopped up tonight! I am HOPING to get a few haircuts in tommorow.. and get this rearranging finalized including some clean up in our school room.. And lesson planning stuff!!!
Should be fun!

You folks have inspired me! I must admit though, I constantly purge things. I'm one of those obsessive folks who clean out and rearrange drawers and closets every few months. The problem is... after a week or so you can't even tell I did it! That really stinks!
I get sooo tired of sorting toys and things month after month that I've finally learned to trash things instead of constantly sorting them. This works especially well in the kid's rooms. How many tiny Barbie shoes do you want to sort into the right tupperware box? (we have the kind that slide under the bed). Will my daughters even miss the missing high heels? We have ka-jillion parts and pieces of Bratz, Barbie and Polly Pocket doll accessories. They never know if a few pieces hit the trash. I used to pains-takingly put every puzzle piece, lego and game part into the correct box but as the years go by I'm much quicker to toss. I don't like waste but I'm tired of sorting.
These sneaky tactics work best when the kids are back at school and you are at home alone. After a few years of trashing McDonald's Happy meal toys and birthday loot prizes I've been thankful to find out they never miss these items. The same goes for the stuffed animals up on the closet shelf or bottom of the toy box.
Get over the guilt and enjoy the lack of clutter! It's a great feeling!

okay, I am tired just reading about your ambition...
All I accompished this week was boogie-ing the master closet... DH is thrilled that **I** put that pink dress shirt in the trash... you know the first shirt I bought him after our honeymoon 17 years ago. He was afraid it would hurt my feelings if he threw it out! Boy, we were both relieved with each other's reaction!
I also boogie'd the main entry way. 23 old school back packs, all with holes in them! 15 mittens, all orphans, their long lost mates not to be found in my life time! 7 stuffed Barney's ~ talk about wanting to yak!
But my concern with all this boogie stuff... I actually hid presents right in the open, unwrapped, practically under everyone's noses. If my house is tidy next Christmas, where to hide the gifts???

Tell the kids Santa didn't recognize a clean house so he never came!!!!hahaha
My dining room has been rearranged, old bent up ripped books, in the burner...old "reference" magazines...in the burner...oh,
I walked in from work about an hour ago and was actually lost. I just stood there looking like an idiot because I couldn't believe I actually got it all done!!!!!
I'm used to stepping over a couple of crates, a sink full of dishes, moving the newspaper so I can sit on the couch....NOT ANYMORE(at least until the real me shows back up)
Crib mattress frame:gone never used kickboard with holes from pencils:out 2 books that got to meet the trash can because they weren't put away, well, duh, in the trash can.
I feel as if a giant weight has been lifted. Granted I still have to go through the hutch and server, I know that I atleast have the power to toss. (hehe I have po.t.t.)
Let me go laugh about that last line for about an hour. Kaiti

I am impressed!!! I found the best way to get rid of clutter is to move.
When I moved last July I ordered a construction dumpster. It was huge and I filled it up!! I still have a few things I cannot part with, like my baby clothes, maternity clothes, crib, and all the other baby gear, even though I have no intention of ever using it again, I figure my sister will (I hope anyway.)
I have to force myself to toss things out every few weeks. No one here does, my DH is a major packrat. We still have his clothes from HS and about 70 lbs lighter. I only have one old sweater (from 5th grade) I cannot part with it b/c it still fits and it is the only thing I ever got from "The Limited." My mom bought it and I know she couldn't afford it at the time so I feel guilty getting rid of it. Maybe someday those big baggy sweaters with the flourscent polka dots on them will come back in style!
I am a deceitful tosser. My DH insisted that he keep a pair of long undies that were literally shreadded. I tossed them 4 yrs ago and never fessed up until last November. By them he stopped looking anyway. He will dig through garbage bags just to get the junk back out and then let it lay around. Out of site, out of mind!

If anyone would like a good laugh or a honest to goodness, glad I did it:
I am watching a girlfriend of mine's 2 yr old little girl, she is presently moving all of my pota and pans to the living room. She has NO interest in the toys that I saved for her in the clothes basket. No, I really couldn't throw everything out and this is why.
Her mommy is at the hospital right now trying to figure if she is going to give birth now or next month. If you please, it is kinda touchy as she cannot afford another child, and is going to give this one up for adoption. The only thing I ask is for you prayers. If I could keep this one for her I would, but we can't afford another one either.
OK, the work paid off. At least I know there will be no little kids hurt tonight. At least ones that don't belong to me.HAHA Kaiti
