That's what Mom told me when I said I was going to ask the doctor about sensory integration dysfunction again. That's what the doctor told me when I was developing minor tics on Focalin.
*growls*
This is basically a thread for me to rant.

Well if it's any consilation, I stopped taking myself to "behavior management" training with my son's psychiatrist when I discovered in one of my many books on ADHD that I'd started reading since he'd been dx'd, the exact diagram that the doctor was referencing with hand gestures while making a very serious point. That little hand gesture was costing me a pretty penny and what was the point of continuing to pay for what I was just going to read in a book anyway. Nevermind that I'd begun reading on th topic before I brought my son in for a dx, of which he was labeled as "severe." I haven't been back since. We now only see our family doctor, who let's me ask any silly thing I want, and it usually turns out that she's read up on it herself. By all means, KEEP READING, even if it only serves to ease your own mind. Susan

It's impossible to read too much. Since we can eat and read at the same time reading doesn't interfere with any essential biological activities. They wouldn't put all that entertaining stuff on cereal boxes if it weren't ok to eat and read at the same time. SID is getting some attention at our house too. DH wondered why I was writing a dissertation on SID and accomodations this weekend until I reminded him we have an appointment with the psych tomorrow. I'll update you on what we figure out. Let me know what you figure out too.

I'm still going to ask him again, though I bet he's going to tell me the same thing again.
I wish there we could see an OT through the student health clinic. Bah.

I agree that there is no such thing as reading too much, but here's a funny story... Friend found out that she is pregnant with twins. She is the type to read anything she can get her hands on when faced with a new situation. So she started reading about twins, and come across books about conjoined twins. She began obsessing and drivng her doctor and husband insane. Doc and Hubby are friends. Doc and fam come over one day for a weenie roast (near Halloween). Wives and kids are outside having a good time when Doc and Hubs come out the door each carrying an armload of books, and they throw them on the fire! Friend was NOT happy. But you have to admit, it was kinda funny!

That is funny. When I was pregnant my doc said read as much as you want, just not off the internet.
If you do not read up on this stuff no one is going to do it for you. If they expect you to stop reasearching things they are asking you to put total trust and control in someone elses's hands, like your doc. I would not be comfrotable with that.

If it was possible to read too much, I would have died years ago from it! I'm a serious book junkie...got money for my birthday last week and went straight to Barnes and Noble and had a wonderful time. Haven't had a chance to read everything yet, and I've been called back to work starting tomorrow! I'm not ready to go back...there are still new books to read!

What symptoms do you have that the doc is calling sensory integration disfunction?
With Li'l Sprout it's fine motor control.

By the way we ordered that book you recommended Learning Outside the Lines for Bean Sprout today. If he learns any bad language he doesn't already know I'm telling DH it's all your fault. I don't think he'll learn anything new though. Although he doesn't use that language around us it's pretty clear he hears it from buddies and understands it. Probably uses it in context too.

You can't say I didn't warn you. Every dang place I talk about that book I make darn sure I've mentioned that it may not be appropriate for the young'uns.

What is it that makes your psych think sensory integration disfunction Allanque? What do you think?

Me asking him. Then he just kinda dismisses the idea.
*growls*
I do a lot of stuff that's associated with it - walking on my toes, won't eat food if it's the wrong texture, won't wear some clothes because of the fabric, turn my socks inside out, pick at every bump on my skin, a lot of different things.

What exactly is SID? I ahve done a little research, but most of the sites i find are just one question and then a doc's response.

Sensory Integration Dysfunction.
Basically, there's something in your nervous system that doesn't quite compute, so you either overreact or underreact to sensory stimulation.

Your explanation of SID sounds like my daughter...is there a specific test for this, or should I read about it ;D and then talk to the doctor?
