Hi All. I bought the Nordic Naturals strawberry soft gels ultimate omega DHA 250mg DHA. My son is about 65 lbs. The first night he took 2 at dinner, and we had no side effects... the 2nd night he took 2 at dinner, and then about midnight he woke up with bad stomach pain, and then vomited (a lot!) He had bad stomach ache for the next couple of hours, and finally went to sleep with a hot water bottle on his tummy. I'm not sure if he's having a side effect from the omega DHA or whether he had a virus. I did check with the daycare and they said that there is a tummy upset going on in there. Anybody else had this ?? Maybe I should give him one in the morning and one at dinner, instead of two at once?? Thanks!

We take Nordic Naturals--not the strawberry kind--and my ds takes 2 in the am and 2 in the pm, and we have never had any problems with stomach upset. We have used other brands that even had those rotten fish burps, and we had no complaints.
If there was something at his school, my guess is that it is a virus. I would still take one Nordic Natural in the am and 1 in the pm just to get a more even dosing. (Dont forget to make sure he has Vit E and C with them. ) If he has no more problems, you'll know it wasn't the omegas. Good luck!

Vitamin E and Vitamin C are both powerful antioxidants. When you take fish oil supplements, it's important to include enough Vitamin E to protect your cells from a breakdown product called "free radicals" which can cause damage in a number of ways...including heart disease and cancer and the neurodegenerative diseases of age. Vitamin E is fat soluble and acts primarily in cell membranes to prevent free radicals from entering. It's most useful against the kinds of free radicals that are a result of metabolic processes, most importantly in this case as an anti-rancidity agent for the fish oil. If you take fish oil in the morning and evening, you ought to take at least 100IU of Vitamin E each time as well. VItamin C is water soluble and cleans up free radicals from within cells. Vitamin C is useful against environmentally introduced toxins. Smokers, in particular, should take plenty of Vitamin C. Unfortunately, because the commercially available vitamin C supplements are derived from corn, my son can't take any of them, so we're still searching for an adequate substitute. Hopefully you won't have that problem, since you ought to consume 400mg daily (see the Linus Pauling Institute link). There's a brief overview of antioxidants and free radicals here: www.healthchecksystems.com/antioxid.htm For a more detailed description of Vitamin E, see: www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/nutrition/factsheets/vitamin-e.htmlFor information on Vitamin C, look at the Linus Pauling Institute: lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminC/index.html

Yeah, they should have named me "Rust", huh? Seems like lately the only time I sleep is while driving. Just ask anyone in my neighborhood who owns a BMW, they'll confirm that.
