Cheryl !! No!! No time limit is being issued for you !! That post was brilliant and brought up some very important points ... so keep those thought coming please!! ... Depression is something my own son had when he was 13 ... it was described as "adolescent onset depression" which made sense ... there had been no sign of it when he was younger ... and it came on with all those hormones jumping around ... He is now nearly 17 and SJW has made a huge difference to him over the past 2-3 years ... the depression disappeared and we even got notes back from the school saying "Sam's attitude has improved soooo much .... " In my opinion this was all because the depression had lifted ... I think the depression had a huge amount to answer for during a very fraught year when he was age 13 !! Getting back to homing in on the positives (and FINDING those positives!) and building up self-esteem .... YES!! .. I agree SOOOO much with this ... it sure can be a long road because I believe school itself can really knock our kid's self esteem RIGHT BACK !! ... I really like the fact that your careworker is "buying in" to help build up your son's self-esteem ... Christy - you said Cami was taking her once a day tablet in the evening ... would it be better maybe if she took it in the morning? Just a thought because Sam takes his every morning which has worked fine ... ??

Yeah, I guess we'll start doing it that way. I don't know why, , but for some reason I was thinking she couldn't take both the Ritalin and SJW at the same time. Adolescent Onset Depression is what Cami was dx'd with. Seems 13 is a rough age. Like you said, in addition to her regular struggles, throw in all these hormonal changes and BANG!! Cami's strengths in my opinion are in the creative arts area. She has a wonderful imagination and can come up with some really good stories. I think she would make a very good children's book author one day. We have talked of this maby times. Also, she is good with painting. She won an award for a painting once in elementary. Unfortunately they do not focus a lot on art in middle school. I plan to gently push her into art classes when she reaches high school. Cheryl, thanks for all that great advice. You weren't long winded at all. You were helpful!

What brands of SJW are there in the one a day doseage? This might be something I would like for Riley to try. He has alot going on (if you have read my other thread) and also some of the things you ladies have described with your kids. Sounds like SJW could be a good try

Cheryl (Sportsmom) ... Do be careful about trying SJW ... it can work for some types of adhd/add but honestly doesn't work for other types ... For a start you need to be absolutely SURE there is no bipolar present ... Bipolar and SJW are a definite NO NO ... (as is the case with any anti-depressant of course!!) ... BUT when it works it can be very impressive ... and has certainly knocked depression on the head for Sam throughout the teenage years ... Christy - Sam takes his Concerta WITH his SJW ... in the morning ... no problems at all on that ... and much easier just to have "one dosage" of pills!!

Anne---I was thinking of the SJW for my non-add'er Riley. He is 15 1/2 and has alot of things going on. I was thinking of trying him on some SJW before he sees the dr for a physical in a few weeks.

Well I didnt read this post before, as we didnt think depression was an issue for sd... UNTIL recently!! Right now the psychiatrist says sd is depressed, so we have her on coromega (3 packets a day), and the dr added 1/4 pill of wellbutrin to go up to 1/2 pill in a week (75 mg whole pill)... Havent seen a change in sd at all, but I suppose it will take time... Supposibly it is possible that the wellbutrin will help her adhd also , that would be cool to get sd down to one prescription medication... Right now she also takes adderall xr 30 mg... Anyway our experience thus far... cat
