Where can I find info on these? Esp. the dysgraphia? Cami's handwriting is awful, and always has been. It runs in her family (all of her dad's family has bad handwriting) and I know is common with ADHD, but she read about a girl with dysgraphia in one of her teen magazines the other day and wants to know more. she thinks she may have it and since she is now 7th grade and still has almost illegible handwriting sometimes I wonder too. What are the "symptoms"/signs and how do you get tested/diagnosed?

Thanks you two!
In reading these articles, it sure seems to "fit".
Aggravting thing is, why didn't I see it before? More aggravating question, why didn't a teacher see it before? She's in the 7th grade for pete's sake! I never even heard of dysgraphia until I saw it mentioned on this site a few months back.
Now, one last question:
How do I go about getting her tested to know for sure whether or not she has it so i can implement new mods on her 504?
Do you go through the school?

Well - that is a whole different issue. I am on a separate dysgraphia board and I have to tell you - it is one of the most common threads!! You can start off with the school. Our school had "never heard of it before" so I don't really know if they actually tested for it before dismissing it. We are currently trying to get testing done by a neurologist (through insurance - a whole other beast) so that we can get a 504 in place.
First I would send a letter to the school requesting that she be tested for dysgraphia.

I forgot to post this yesterday.....
I sent an email to the 7th grade counselor with an article about dysgraphia attached. I told her Cami came to me herself concerned she may have it and I wanted to know if she was familiar with it and how I could go about getting her tested for it and help if she was dx'd.
She replied within the hour that she is indeed familiar with it, she was an l.d. teacher before she became a counselor and that she would get with the school's psychologist that afternoon and get back with me in a day or two.
We'll see what happens!

That definitely helps that she is familiar with it!! I printed of the two articles above plus three other articles gave them to the principal in a meeting - unfortunately it didn't help! Keeping my fingers crossed for Cami!!

Hey Christy, I know it's Monday Morning, but have you heard anymore on this? Yes, actually I have.... I rec'd an email Friday that stated she had indeed checked with the psychologist and said there wasn't a formal test to diagnose dysgraphia, but we did need to schedule a 504 meeting with her team "to discuss accomodations that may help her, esp. ones that will help her learn to take notes quickly and accurately." She asked me to let her know what day would be good for me for the meeting. I did and am awaiting a reply. Thanks for asking.

Christy...I am not positive but I think Cami might be entitled to a "scribe"...someone who would go to classes with her and take notes for her.It might be worth checking out.

Sounds like they know what they are talking abbout! (I'm secretly jealous but very happy for you!)
Tape recorders - or even typing - if she is a good typist.
