Crillmom,
Ritalin LA did not work well for DS! On the Ritalin LA he was almost comatosed in the morning, getting inattentive and a little too hyper around Noon, and the rebounds were MONSTEROUS. The delivery system is different and the Metadate CD seems to work much more smoothly - evenly. We give him his pill at 7:45 (it takes a good half hour for the bus to actually get to the school). He gets off the bus at 3:15 and I would say he it is in the process of leaving his system at that time. It does take about a half hour to "kick in". Before getting the ritalin booster for afterschool I actually DID give DS another Metadate CD every Monday when he got home from school. We had hockey at 5:40 and after two unmedicated sessions it was either drop hockey or try the Metadate CD and see what happens.
It is funny - but the sleep issue wasn't as much of a problem as we thought it would be. DS DOESN'T sleep - regardless of meds. NEVER has! He actually was able to settle down enough to fall asleep. And if for some reason he didn't he was quietly doing something. He was NOT up any later than usual. I would say 4 out of 5 times (after taking the 2nd dose of the Metadate) he was asleep much earlier than normal.

My 13 year old (ADHD-inattentive) has been on Metadate CD for the past 3 school years. Prior to that he was on Ritalin, twice a day. We've had great success with Metadate CD. It's delivery system is different from Concerta, which my son did NOT do well on. It lasts my son thru an entire school day. If he has tons of homework, we give him a dose of regular Ritalin. Unfortunately there is no way to tell whether Metadate CD would work well for you unless you try it. Good luck!

He takes 2 20 mg capsules every morning, and, if needed, 15 mg (1 and 1/2) Ritalin for a homework dose.
