My general dr. is all about natural alternatives first; meds only if absolutely necessary. He wouldn't prescribe Ritalin for me because of my history of depression, but I knew it worked really well and was frustrated by his answer. He said he is sure that Ritalin will contribute to depression.
I tend to like Ritalin because of the control I have with it. I don't have to take it all the time.I don't like meds in general and avoid them if I can. Instead, he gave me a prescription for Straterra. I didn't want to get on another drug that I have to take all the time.
I went to a psych dr. instead and asked in advance if she was "friendly" toward Ritalin. Yes, she was and she went ahead and gave me a prescription. I have used Omega 3 and a Liquid B complex to handle my depression and anxiety and it worked! I was so shocked. I have tried at least 5 different meds for these conditions, but the supplements actually worked for 5 good months. But, since I have incorporated Ritalin, it seems that my depression and negativity keep trying to creep back in. I am also really wiped out when the Ritalin wears off.
Anyone else know anything about this or heard that Ritalin could aggravate depression?
<sigh> It's such a process, isn't it?
It is SOOOOO difficult for me to make sure I get fed properly. Cooking healthy food is SOO time consuming and you know what THAT's like for an adhd person. YO!
What would I do without my mother living within walking distance? Sheesh.

Hey Buttercup, I found this on the net. I went through a few different sites, but I was trying to find on that was neutral, but there didn't seem to be to many, so I hope this is ok....sorry, don't have any experience with Ritalin personally, but I did deal with a kid that says he used to get depressed when he was on it. Sorry for that bit, but I figured I'd let you know. www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-r03.html#Head_5

Thanks for the information. I stopped taking this a couple of days ago...just don't like this stuff in general. Feels like it is wiping me out in a lot of ways...like I'm all revved up and moving while it's working and then I'm a rag doll when it wears off. That just can't be good. Looking into the Feingold diet and trying Magnesium/Calicium per Catatonic's information. We'll see.

Feingold is EXCELLENT, I swear by it.
My husband told me when we first delved into all this that he was sitting and thinking about all of the foods that Mikey couldn't have......he was eating a meatball sandwich and felt his ears warming up, he looked in a mirror and darned if he didn't have those red ears associated with all of Mikey's stuff.
