This is a spin-off from another topic ... I mentioned that Concerta "kicks in" and starts to take effect for my son Sam within about 10 minutes. Linda said it was more like an hour for her Paul.
Would be really interested to see how long it takes for meds (of all descriptions) to kick in for others?

Jarrett's Concerta takes about an hour. Mornings at my house are NOT fun because of this. It seems we are always late because it takes Jarrett so long to eat, brush his teeth, etc, with all the distractions! I have to stand in the bathrrom and watch him brush his teeth because he will just sit there and play in the water forever, or he will sit in the bathroom floor and play with a toy. Not to mention he has to pop his head out every few minutes to make sure he hasn't missed anything else going on around the house!

my son is on concerta it takes a good 30 minutes before I see any improvement, that's why I give it to his the minute he is up in the morning then he watches T.V. if not its a battle in the morning to get ready

Ritalin La takes about half an hour to kick in for Brenna. The regular Ritalin also seems to take about a half an hour. The clonidine you can see her unwinding at about 30 min. and she will ask to go to bed in about 60- 90 minutes. Shelli

Gabriel was taking adderrall xr and that thing kicks in almost immediately.... I'm switching meds...to Concerta and that will start on wednesday so I don't know how long it will take to kick in...I will let you know...but from what I've seen so far, I guess I will also be giving it to him as soon as he wakes up.....

Adderall XR seemed to take about 20 minutes to kick in for Conner... BUT it only stays in his system for about four MAYBE five hours...

Dan is on Adderall XR and it takes about 20 minutes. He takes it right before he leaves for school. He comes off it around 6:00pm. Now that he has gotten older his rebound is not so much, but we used to need to leave him alone for 30-45 minutes at that time of day.

Brooke may be in the minority here, but I don't think I could say when it kicks in. Strattera is supposed to be in her system 24/7 so I understand not seeing it now. But, back when she was on stims, I never really saw a difference in behavior, and if there was it wasn't like you could set you watch by it.
