Good morning. I was just curious to know what type of allergy medicines for running noses and itchy eyes do some of you use with a stimulant (concerta, ritalin), if any.
The reason I am asking is because my DS is currently suffering from allergies and he is on Concerta. I am reluctant to give him benadryl because it makes him very hyperactive. I am thinking of using Flonase for him.
Any suggestion that you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Gina

I buy the generic form of Claritin. Floratadine (sp)? His ped prescribed the Claritin and then it went over the counter. It is very cheap in the generic brands. I think I only paid about $6.00 for a 30 day supply. It does wonders for his allergies! He gets drainage and a hacky cough during allergy season. He has never had trouble with itchy or watery eyes. I tried Clarinex and Zyrtec once Claritin hit OTC and they weren't offering the generic brands yet. It was cheaper with my insurance co-pay to get a prescriptive med than to buy the OTC Claritin. Neither worked well for my son. He is also on Concerta.

Thanks Jdmom,
I might try the Claritin. Do you notice any hyperactivity with Claritin? I just don't like benadryl and what it does to my DS. It seems everytime I have given him benadryl he is climbing the walls. I always wonder if there was some sort of bad interaction between the benadryl(anhistamine) and the concerta that made him behave in a hyper state.
Anyway, thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

My ADHD daughter gets allergy shots for long term relief and uses Flonase when needed, without any ill effects. Personally, while I don't have ADHD myself, many medications (as well as caffeine and chocolate-boohoo)make my heart race and keep me up at night. Claritin and its generic equivalents do have that effect on me to a mild degree, so I would be cautious and try them out on a weekend.

My doctor said to just stay away from anything containing a decongestant. They have a reving up reaction that can be too much with the stims. My daughter takes Claritin when she needs it and my doctor said that is fine.
