My ds10 started Adderall two weeks ago--he's on 10 mg. The first few days were incredible! He felt so good about himself since he could suddenly do his schoolwork without getting distracted. I even saw the positive behaviors continue after the medicine wore off. He was inattentive and distracted, but much more positive about himself, and patient with his mistakes.
Now it seems like it's not working anymore. We homeschool, so I am able to observe him doing his work, and it seems like it is back to the same old frustrations and forgetfulness. Today he said he doesn't feel like it's working anymore.
Can his body have adjusted to it that quickly? I thought it would be a long time before that would happen. Any thoughts on this?

The Doctors usually start them on the lowest dose and work them up to the beneficial dose....so yeah it is possible he needs a higher dose. Have you checked with his Doctor yet?

No, I haven't yet. I suppose that's the next step. It just seemed strange that 10 mg worked so well the first couple of days. I'll give the MD a call.
Thanks.

his body has probably ajusted to the med so he'll propabaly need a higher dose my dd is 6 and on 20mg Adderrall XR she started out on 10mg she probably still needs a higher dose but high doses give her night terrors.

He probably does need a higher dose. They start them out on very low doses so they are not over medicated. My daughter is on ritalin and the first dose they gave her you could not even tell they had given her anything. I called the docter and they increased it after a couple of days. The next jump in the dose was the magic number and she has stayed there ever since. I am just waiting for that to stop working, this disease is ever changing. My daughter has been on over 10 different meds. including stimulants, antidepressants, Blood pressure meds, antipsychotics. I went to school for nursing and feel like I should of gone to pharmacy school. It will get better eventually!!! shelli
