We are running out of meds to try with me. We've tried: - ritalin - adderall - adderall xr - concerta - strattera - focalin - metadate
Either they didn't do anything or the side effects weren't worth it. Any suggestions for others to try?

What's your dx? You've probably posted it before but can't remember.

Have you tried a combination of any of the meds you listed? I understand that Strattera and Adderall make a good combination.

Allanque, As far as I know your list of meds would address the ADHD/ADD issue and increase dopamine levels in the prefrontal cortex. I wonder if using some of the antianxiety meds would be better to get at the OCD problems that happen in another part of the brain first. Most of the time when anxiety issues are involve such as happens with OCD this type of med is more effective. Check out www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/medicate.cfm and click on "antianxiety medications". There is some information on OCD and what to use. Also the "Index of medications" section should be helpful to do some research on. This will list the antianxiety meds. See what you think.

I was thinking the same thing Oh mama said--anti- anxiety meds helped my daughter much more than the concerta did. She takes zoloft and much of her behavior that is provoked by situations and anxiety are sooo much better. What does your dr suggest?

Nothing you've listed addresses the OCD. Paxil has been a huge help for my daughter's OCD. We have had less success with the ADHD, unfortunately. Try to get the OCD under control (there are lots of meds available outside of Paxil), then see what you have to contend with.

Ok, I guess I should have listed those too.
Lexapro seemed to do rather well for the OCD. However, it was $40/mo, so we switched to Celexa, which didn't do a darn thing. Now they're starting me on Zoloft, but I finished the starter pack and we had some communication issues and I don't have the script yet. OCD blew up in my face.
They consider me to have a mild OCD and aren't concerned about treating. They're only concerned because I'm concerned about the scars.

What do you mean "the scars"? My ds doesn't take anything for his ADHD (takes meds for TS). I don't have any answers either. Maybe non-med interventions? I couldn't live without my little hand-held PC and its schedule. Christie

The main thing I do that they consider OCD is that if there is any little bump on my skin, I will pick at it until it bleeding unless something distracts me. Unfortunately, that's one of the things I hyperfocus on waaaay too often.

Dang I'm sorry to hear this. And real sorry to hear that $40 a month was a deal breaker on a med that helped out some.
Bean Sprout is on Prozac and Concerta. The combo seems to be helping him a lot. He has had anxiety and now depression problems most of his life.
When he was younger he used to chew his fingernails and toenails down to the quick. That's right he'd chew his toenails. That was gross and amazing in equal parts! Limber little guy back then! He outgrew that before he started on meds. He's only been on the Prozac for a few weeks and I'm already starting to think he should've been on an SSRI all along seeing him now and thinking back over the years.
Aside from a more effective SSRI with the best stimulant not considering side effects because I think side effects won't be an issue while you're taking an SSRI there's only one other thing I can think of.
Wellbutrin. Have you tried that before?

Welbutrin made me go like this:
*holds her hand out and makes it act like she's had 5 shots of espresso and a couple snickerdoodles*
Not a good thing.
I used to bite my finger and toenails. Managed to stop with the fingernails for the most part and now use them to peel off my toenails. Don't know why. Just do.
Talked to dr. We're going to try Dexedrine. AND he's going to send me a new script for Zoloft.

Guess we better forget the Wellbutrin then! Dang I thought Bean Sprout had to be the only person in the world who ever chewed on his toenails. At least he's in good company. I hope the Zoloft and Dexedrine work out for you. Drop by and let us know. What classes are you taking this term? More Russian? Taanstafl!

You ought to take some Operations Research before you graduate. Might come in handy and it will sure put Statistics in perspective.
Intro to Operations Research changed my whole field of study. Away from Operations Research.
