Sue, I have been searching on this and so far all I am seeing is that the effectiveness on children has not been established so no dose is given. I don't know if updated research shows something else. If so I can't find it. I do know that this med is related to Celexa, A starting adult dose of Lexapro is 10 mg. On Monday while I am at work I can look into this further as there are sites there I can access that I can't at home. Sorry, Sue

thanks so much for all your help. I have another question for you, My son has been taking concerta. Tonight we gave him a 10mg. dose of ritilan because he had a show to go to. Anyway the ritilan worked so much better than the concerta. I am thinking of switching him over to just ritilian but he will have to take a pill at school correct. Is ritilian LA a better choice does it work just like straight ritilan or should I stay with ritilan and deal with him having to take a pill in school. Any thoughts. You are a tremendous help.

Concerta, Ritalin and Ritalin LA are all the same med but differ in their delivery systems. Straight Ritalin stays in the system for up to 4 hours but as we all know may only last 2 hours in some kids. Ritalin LA last longer... up to 8 hrs. Concerta has a system that lests off the med at 3 different times. It is a plunger system so can't be crushed or cut. On some kids you see the up and down of the effectiveness. When the first dose is wearing down the second hasn't yet kicked in on some kids. This gives a "seesaw" effect in behavior. I have read for different parents that while regular Ritalin worked for their kids, Concerta did not. It all remains trial and error and is different for each individual child. This is why when you find something that works for you and your child... don't mess with it. It is a hassell to give him multiple doses of Ritalin so maybe the Ritalin LA will help get him through the school day. If not you can always go back to the short acting. Good luck, Hey how is the Lexapro going? Sue
