On top of her points today for saying " Duh" to a teacher (see Cami's thread "Is this right?") Cami got a one day in school suspension for not having a belt on today. She will serve it tomorrow. Needless to say my Drama Queen came home in a bad mood and has made home life tonight not so pleasant.  At any rate, though I agree she deserved the points for saying " Duh" to the teacher (despite the reason why) I have to question the ISS. I mean, she forgot her belt. Forgot it. Do these administrators not know that that is possible? Are they expecting these kids to believe that they have never walked out of their house in a rush and forgot something? Please! And when they do, do they face punishment for it? I'm sorry, others may disagree, but what in the world does a child having a belt on in school have to do with anything? Is a beltless child inflicting harm on another person? Are they being disrespectful? harmful? Is their beltless waist standing in the way of them or another child getting their lesson for the day? Is their beltless waist a threat to another? These are things kids deserve punishment for... they do not deserve punishment because they were running behind one morning and forgot to put on a belt.  :-*ok, off the soap box. |

Does she have to wear uniforms? (excuse me I am less than knowledgeable) I fail to see a reason ..unless it is part of a agreed upon uniform. OMG I dont know what I would do if Jared HAD to wear certain things and remember them daily..it would drive me nuts. ;D Now if Bud forgets his I.D. lanyard then it hits the fan at school..but a belt.. I fail to understand.  |

I think I would really fight the ISS for that one. She didnt forget her homework, she didnt hurt anyone, she forgot to put on an insignifigant piece of clothing. Her pants/dress wasnt falling down was it? Is it stated in the school rules that if they dont wear something that is part of their uniform they will get punished? Has everyone that forgot to wear a belt get ISS? I bet if you go to the principal calmly with a few of these questions, she wont have ISS.

ok, little more info here. They do not have a uniform, just a strict dress code. Because of the baggy, hanging off their rear pants and oversized shirts most of the boys here wear today, and the ability to easily hide a weapon under all this bagginess, their dress code states they must wear properly fitting clothes, with shirts tucked in and a belt. They used to give out these hideous looking pink plastic pieces for students to wear when they forgot their belts but it became overused or too much so then they decided they would just put kids in ISS for the day when it happened. This isn't Cami's first time forgetting her belt so I guess she is one of the ones that "miss used the old system." Ok, I can see that, but again, noone is perfect and I know I have walked out of my house on more than one occassion in a rush and forgot something.... and I don't have ADHD. Thing is, the ISS is TODAY. It was assigned her yesterday and I didn't find out about it until after 4:00 when she got home from school. Noone from the school called. They will be hearing from me first thing this morning though.  |

Christy...I think I would call them too. There is a real possibility that cami is being targeted...there is also the possibility that cami is trying to "buck" the system. My opinion though the punishment is too harsh.

Really, in all honestly, she didn't forget it this time... her friend did.
A friend of hers that she rides the bus with gave her a pair of pants Wednesday that she has outgrown. The pants came with a belt, but the friend forgot it Thursday. She told Cami that she would bring it yesterday. Cami wore the pants expecting the friend to bring the belt on the bus meaning she would have a belt on when she arrived at school. Well, guess what? The friend forgot it.

 Christy I would deffenately question this punishment...forgetting a belt Dont they have anything else to monitor, I believe Cami´s jean´s were not hanging on the half way down, were they ;D O´kay it´s a dress code and all, but the belt ( sorry, I dont seem to get over this at all ;D)..... go for it Christy!!!

Cami came home last night and told me she had been assigned a day of In School Suspension for not having a belt on yesterday. Is it normal for the parent not to be contacted by the school and informed of this? I know they are given a notice to give to parents but you know as well as I do that doesn't always happen. Anyway, I have to say that although most times I agree with punishments given, this time I do not. I do understand the dress code reasoning, but feel that girls are punished in a sense for boy's fashions of today. I mean, was Cami's pants falling off of her because she didn't have on a belt? In Cami's case (this time) she wasn't even the one that forgot it. She was wearing pants that a friend had given her the day before and the friend had assured her she would have the belt that went with the pants on the bus yesterday morning. The friend forgot. Of course I know Cami has forgotten it in the past, but everyone walks out of their house sometimes in a rush and forgets things. I'm sure you have and the teachers that want to inflict this punishment have too, but do they get punished when they forget something? I'm sorry, but I find the whole thing silly. It is different if they are just flat out refusing to wear one... this falls under disrespect and not following teacher's directions, but if it is simply a matter of forgetting it, they do not deserve a day in In School Suspension and a disciplinary documentation in their school record about such.
If it is not too late I would like my daughter pulled from ISS for the day.

Did you get a reply? I am curious what happened. She called, naturally with my luck, while I was at lunch and left a message on my voice mail. She said, "we have worked with Cami throughout the year on dress code issues. The last time she had a violation she was warned that next time she would get ISS, and that is what happened. Feel free to call me if you have any further questions." I know that Cami has had trouble with short shirts... I actually posted it about it a while back. That's why I went a couple weeks ago and spent a small fortune on a ton of new shirts to get her thru the remainder of the year. Yet, this wasn't a matter of a blatant violation, this was a matter of a child forgetting. At any rate, I wasn't expecting anything more than I got.... but at least I got my point across at how stupid I think it is. I mean kids do not have the ability to turn the bus around and head back home while calling the school to say they will be a few minutes late because they forgot something. Once they step on the bus that's it. If they realize they forgot something, it's like "too bad", and we ALL do it sometimes. Oh well, four more weeks of school and it's over for a while.  |

I realize I'm chiming in late here, but this is so ridiculous that I had to write. Firstly, I don't believe in ISS AT ALL! I'd have had a real knock-down, drag out over this. What does she do in ISS? What purpose does it serve? Will it make her remember her belt the next time she's rushing out of the house? I doubt it. What does she do all day? Homework? Is not wearing a belt worth her missing out on class instruction? Hmmmm. I'd definitely have been up there raising He11!! As for the dress code - I fully believe in them, but a belt is a bit too far, especially if the pants fit fine. Have her keep an extra one in her locker - or better yet, a length of rope (nope, that would probably be considered a "weapon.")!! Sometimes I wonder about these school officials who get paid so much....  Geez! I'd really like to know how ISS makes her remember her belt - did she have to write an essay on wearing belts? Did they make her write up the history of the belt? What if she chose to wear suspenders, instead? Kris |

Her shirt was too short... skin was exposed and of course it wasn't tucked in. ARGH!!! Problem is... I noticed it this morning and TOL her this, but as usual... due to her laying in bed way too long and getting up at the last minute.... she didn't have time to change it since it was time to go or miss the bus. She just quickly grabbed another shirt and threw it in her bookbag "just in case" or maybe with plans to change when she got to school. Well, I guess they busted her anyway for wearing it in the first place. This time instead of ISS she got two morning detentions. This child will be the death of me! I hust know it! |

I cleaned jareds locker out when I went to get his homework (he was sick Wens.) and I found three shirts , 2 hats, 3 gloves, and two coats..go figure! ( oh and two library books he swore he returned! ;D )
